About me

I have always been interested in the way we are with ourselves, with others and with the planet. The way we relate in all these areas is crucial, I believe, to our ongoing sense of well-being.

My own experience of life and therapy has made me aware of the value of being listened to, understood and talking with a genuine, empathic person. My therapeutic skill has developed with my counselling training, my ten year psychotherapy training and the many years of experience with my clients. I chose very consciously to do an integrated psychotherapy training, not wishing to be limited by one theoretical approach and very pleased I did so at the highly respected Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling bcpc.

My approach
I find an integrated approach very appealing at various levels. Essentially it allows for open-mindedness in the way we are and the development of understanding between therapist and client. As well as my life experience, I draw from the wealth of theoretical approaches. Mainly I draw from the humanistic side, especially person-centred and gestalt, which in general sees that people are naturally healthy given the right conditions. And from the psychoanalytic, which takes a concern with human development and how childhood patterns can affect us in the present.

I also draw from a more contemplative approach, Buddhist in particular. Through working in this way we can learn how to 'just be' with our experience and not fight it, which I believe is one of the keys to well-being.
